POSITION SUMMARY

Orion is seeking an experienced Sr. Estimator to join our Houston office supporting Marine Construction and Heavy Civil Construction projects. This position is responsible for preparing detailed estimates, quantity takeoffs, bid packages, and supporting the overall proposal and award process for complex marine and heavy civil infrastructure projects.

The Sr. Estimator will work closely with Operations, Project Management, subcontractors, and suppliers to develop competitive and accurate project estimates while helping ensure successful project pursuit and execution.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work closely with the VP of Operations and Project Management Team to support successful bid and estimating efforts for marine construction projects.
  • Lead the development of project estimating plans, schedules, and bid timelines.
  • Conduct site visits and investigations for potential projects as required.
  • Prepare quantity takeoffs and detailed cost estimates.
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
  • Organize bid documentation, estimates, quotations, and supporting data for final review.
  • Assist in reviewing bid documents for project risk, constructability, company capability, and cost exposure.
  • Prepare comprehensive bid packages and supporting worksheets.
  • Assist in determining construction sequencing, labor requirements, productivity rates, and equipment needs.
  • Support development of man-hour estimates and unit production calculations.
  • Maintain vendor and subcontractor databases and pricing information.
  • Participate in company Safety and Environmental initiatives and compliance programs.
  • Perform additional estimating, administrative, and technical duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of estimating experience in Marine Construction, Heavy Civil Construction, or related industries.
  • Strong understanding of marine construction means and methods, self-perform construction operations, and heavy civil estimating practices.
  • Experience with:
  • HCSS Heavy Bid
  • Construction estimating software
  • Primavera P6 scheduling
  • Cost control and project tracking systems
  • Procurement and subcontractor management
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline preferred.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
  • Ability to maintain a current passport.
PHYSICAL / WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

This role may require:

  • Walking and climbing on active construction sites, barges, vessels, and waterfront facilities.
  • Standing, kneeling, stooping, climbing, or sitting for extended periods.
  • Working outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions.
  • Wearing required PPE including hard hats, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, respirators, hearing protection, and personal flotation devices.

The incumbent must also remain calm and respond appropriately during emergency situations and be capable of safely evacuating work areas when necessary.
