We are seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Estimator to join a growing construction team focused on highway, roadway, bridge, and DOT infrastructure projects throughout Texas. The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates, analyzing project risks, coordinating with subcontractors and suppliers, and supporting business development and project pursuits.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience with TXDOT projects, heavy civil construction means and methods, and estimating software platforms commonly used within the infrastructure industry.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare detailed cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects including highways, bridges, paving, utilities, grading, and roadway reconstruction.
- Review project plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and contract documents to determine scope requirements and project risks.
- Perform quantity takeoffs for earthwork, concrete, asphalt paving, drainage, utilities, structures, and bridge components.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing.
- Develop bid packages and coordinate bid submissions to meet deadlines.
- Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client meetings as required.
- Analyze labor, equipment, and material costs to ensure accurate pricing strategies.
- Collaborate with operations, project management, and executive teams during preconstruction planning.
- Maintain relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and TXDOT contacts.
- Support change order pricing and budgeting during project execution when needed.
- Assist with schedule reviews and phasing plans for complex infrastructure projects.
- Ensure estimates align with company safety standards, production rates, and profitability goals.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.
- 5 to 10 years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction.
- Strong experience estimating TXDOT highway, bridge, roadway, and paving projects.
- Strong understanding of heavy civil construction means and methods.
- Ability to interpret civil plans, specifications, and bid documents.
- Knowledge of earthwork, concrete, asphalt, drainage, utilities, and bridge construction.
- Experience with HCSS Heavy Bid estimating software.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
