Project Superintendent Role Overview

The Superintendent must schedule construction activities to ensure each assigned project is completed on schedule and constructed to the highest quality standard in accordance with plans and specs. They must manage construction activities to ensure all work is performed safely and within OSHA guidelines. They also must manage a relationship with the Owner to ensure communication is good and that their questions and concerns are addressed timely.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Project Manager with developing the overall schedule for each project.
  • Assist the Project Manager in buying out the budget and utilizing the "WBL Buy-Out" Process.
  • Know the scope of the work for the entire project. Review the contract documents including the contract, drawings, specifications, addenda, each subcontractor and each vendor’s subcontract scope of work.
  • Plan, schedule and manage the daily operations of each project including subcontractors’ work, delivery of supplies, vendors, and Wurzel Builders, Ltd. (WBL) performed work, ensuring milestone dates are met.
  • Monitor all conditions at the job site on a continuous basis to ensure the conditions are clean and safe to work in.
  • Monitor all work including the subcontractors’ work, work habits, and work procedures to ensure they are following WBL, OSHA, and code safety requirements.
  • Monitor all work to ensure it is being constructed in accordance with the plans, specifications, and building codes with the highest quality possible.
  • Ensure all inspections required by the jurisdiction having authority are being performed.
  • Communicate all problems as required with the Project Manager and Owner representatives to facilitate quick resolution of problems.
  • Hold weekly safety meetings and submit a safety meeting report utilizing the company form each Monday to the designated office personnel.
  • Conduct weekly coordination/planning meeting with subcontractors.
  • Utilize the company Project Management Software (PMS) to keep a "Daily Log" of each day’s activities. Use appropriate level of detail to tell story.
  • Utilize the company Project Management Software to submit/manage RFI including tracking and managing submittals.
  • Manage and approve timesheets for self and direct reports.
  • Submit subcontractor immigration/worker verification logs.
  • Set‑up the jobsite and jobsite trailer (when applicable).
  • Review and approve subcontractor work orders that show the actual hours worked and material provided (not including work field work orders that include pricing).
  • Be on-site at all times while work is being performed by WBL vendors or subcontractors or arrange for on‑site coverage (except short amounts of time for lunch or project‑related errands).
  • Develop and maintain a "short interval schedule" in the company PMS on a weekly basis (every Monday) and distribute to each subcontractor.
  • Meet weekly with the Project Manager and subcontractor to discuss schedule activities and resolve problems.
  • Work with Project Managers and Administration Supervisor to create streamlined systems and efficient communication pathways to set each project up for success.
  • Conduct periodic inspections of construction and superintendent processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • 3+ years of experience as a superintendent on commercial construction projects.
  • 30 hours OSHA Certification.
  • CPR Certification.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and project management software.
  • Knowledge in all trades involved in construction projects.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem‑solving capabilities.
  • Ethical behavior and integrity used in all situations.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Team orientated.
  • Bachelor of Science in Construction or related degree, Certified Professional Constructor and/or Certified Construction Manager preferred.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full‑time exempt position. Typical workdays and hours are Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some weekend work may be required. The work location is on the jobsite.
