Job SummaryGrouting Company is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Construction Estimator to accurately calculate the costs associated with our specialized grouting and concrete leveling projects. The ideal candidate will be a vital link between our sales, operations, and field teams, ensuring that all bids are competitive, accurate, and structured for maximum profitability. This role requires strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of construction documents, and the ability to build effective relationships with clients and suppliers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Estimate Preparation:
Perform detailed quantity take-offs for materials, labor, and equipment required for various grouting and concrete repair leveling projects (e.g., slab lifting, void filling, pressure grouting). - Bidding & Proposals:
Prepare and submit accurate, comprehensive, and competitive bids and proposals in response to invitations to bid (ITBs) and client requests.
Research and find opportunities to target. - Cost Analysis:
Solicit, analyze, and negotiate quotes from sub-contractors and material suppliers to ensure the lowest sustainable cost. - Document Interpretation:
Expertly read and interpret blueprints, technical specifications, and project documents to fully understand the project scope and identify potential risks or scope gaps. - Project Handoff:
Collaborate with Project Managers to transition winning bids into active projects, ensuring a clear understanding of the budget, scope, and timeline. - Client & Vendor Relations:
Maintain and develop strong relationships with general contractors, engineers, owners, and key vendors to foster new business opportunities and competitive pricing. - Database Management:
Maintain and update a cost database (historical costs, labor rates, and material pricing) to improve the accuracy and efficiency of future estimates. - Risk Assessment:
Identify project risks and opportunities, and recommend contingency plans for potential cost and schedule deviations.
- Education:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and construction estimating experience. - Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Estimator, preferably in specialty contracting, geotechnical, concrete, or civil construction. - Specialized Knowledge:
Familiarity with grouting techniques (chemical, cementitious, polyurethane), concrete leveling
, and relevant materials is highly desirable. - Skills:
Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff) and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel). - Proficient with online construction bids and RFQs websites (e.g., Construct Connect, Amtek, Bonfire).
- Strong mathematical and analytical abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work primarily in an office setting.
- Occasional need to visit job sites for pre-bid meetings and site evaluations, which may involve walking, climbing, and working in various outdoor weather conditions.
- Minimum 2 years of estimating experience.
- Knowledge of specialty construction/concrete leveling is a plus.
- Proficiency with estimating software and bid websites.
