Position Summary

This position is accountable for building and setting forms made of wood, metal, vinyl, and other materials in accordance with customer specifications (plans). The Form Setter drives wooden and metal stakes with a sledgehammer and hammers or screws and nails to secure the forms.

The incumbent must have the ability and flexibility to work varying shifts and long hours (8‑12 hours). Weekend work and extra hours occur according to production needs and at the discretion of the Supervisor. The incumbent must support Orion’s guiding beliefs and core values of Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Teamwork, built upon the foundation of Integrity.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Build, erect, and align forms for various concrete structures and pier foundations using preformed forming systems.
  • Set anchor bolts for drilled pier foundations.
  • Estimate concrete quantities and appropriate mixes.
  • Interpret blueprints, read survey stakes, and calculate areas and volumes.
  • Spread concrete to specified depth and workable consistency.
  • Perform rough leveling and shaping of concrete surfaces.
  • Remove rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces using a power grinder, etc.
  • Mix cement using a concrete mixing machine.
  • Assist other workers and the foreman as necessary.
  • Mentor and train other foundation employees.
  • Complete and maintain work records, field paperwork, and generate reports.
  • Support drilling processes when necessary.
  • Operate all equipment and tools required, including cement mixing machines, power trowels, small mechanical hoists, surveying and measuring equipment, and instruments.
  • Maintain equipment and tools to ensure long‑lasting use.
Employee Safety and Compliance
  • Take responsibility for personal safety.
  • Ensure the safety of all co‑workers and other incumbents encountered.
  • Stop work whenever an unsafe condition is anticipated or observed.
  • Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and Company policies, subject to disciplinary action for non‑compliance.
  • Report all violations of laws, regulations, or Company policies promptly, subject to disciplinary action for failure to report.
  • Perform other duties assigned by immediate supervision, such as certification training, safety training, or procedure review.
Position Requirements

A minimum of one year of experience in concrete structural construction, finishing concrete structures and pier foundations, and setting steel preformed forming systems is required. A high school diploma or GED is preferred. Additionally, the incumbent must:

  • Be able to work under constant changes in weather and site conditions.
  • Be able to lift, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and perform other similar activities as needed.

Physical/Mental Requirements

The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. The individual must also wear and properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required—hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel‑toed shoes, or other protective equipment appropriate to the work and location.

The individual must identify critical issues and formulate action plans with all levels of management, including corporate and executive.

The incumbent must remain calm during emergencies, respond appropriately according to the situation, and evacuate the work area in a timely manner if an emergency occurs.
