Green Valley Construction is seeking a Utility Coordination Specialist to join our team and support the development and construction of residential communities and large-scale projects.

This position will be responsible for coordinating utility installations and schedules from the development/construction planning stages through completion. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience working with utility providers, developers, contractors, municipalities.

We are especially interested in candidates who have experience coordinating with electric, gas, water, sewer, telecommunications, or cable utility providers, including joint trench projects and the scheduling of utility installations.

This is a great opportunity for someone who understands how utility coordination impacts the overall construction schedule and can proactively communicate with multiple parties to keep projects moving.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate utility installations and schedules for residential development and construction projects.
  • Work directly with electric, gas, water, sewer, telecommunications, or cable utility providers to coordinate service requirements, installation schedules, inspections, and project timelines.
  • Coordinate joint trench utility services and help ensure all utility providers are aligned on scheduling and requirements.
  • Communicate with electric, gas, water, sewer, telecommunications, and other utility providers as needed.
  • Coordinate utility work with developers, civil engineers, general contractors, subcontractors, municipalities, inspectors, and field personnel.
  • Track utility commitments, applications, permits, approvals, construction dates, and completion dates.
  • Monitor utility schedules and identify potential delays that could affect the overall project schedule.
  • Follow up with utility companies and contractors to ensure work is progressing according to schedule.
  • Maintain accurate records of utility applications, correspondence, plans, schedules, inspections, and project documentation.
  • Review utility plans and construction schedules to identify conflicts or potential scheduling issues.
  • Help coordinate utility relocations, temporary services, permanent services, and meter/service installations when applicable.
  • Attend project meetings and provide updates regarding utility status and upcoming work.
  • Communicate delays, changes, or issues to management and the appropriate project teams.
  • Work closely with our construction, development, purchasing, and project management teams.
  • Maintain organized tracking spreadsheets and reports for multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Perform additional coordination and administrative duties related to development and construction projects as needed.
Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of experience in utility coordination, construction coordination, land development, civil construction, or a related field.
  • Experience communicating and coordinating with utility providers.
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and utility schedules at the same time.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable communicating with utility companies, contractors, engineers, municipalities, and internal teams.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to read and understand basic construction plans, site plans, utility plans, and schedules.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned projects.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience coordinating utilities for residential subdivisions or large-scale residential developments.
  • Experience working with electric, gas, water, sewer, telecommunications, or cable utility providers.
  • Experience coordinating utility installations with civil contractors and developers.
  • Familiarity with utility construction standards, permitting, inspections, and service requirements.
  • Experience working in the Houston/Harris County development and construction market.
Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is someone who is organized, persistent, and comfortable picking up the phone and getting answers.

Utility coordination often requires constant follow-up, communication, and problem-solving. We need someone who will stay on top of utility providers and contractors, recognize when a project is falling behind, and communicate issues before they become major scheduling problems.

You should be comfortable managing several communities/projects at once and keeping detailed records of where each project stands.
