Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Music / Concert Journalist

Bangerville is looking for a Music / Concert Journalist who can go to a show, pay attention to what actually happened, and come back with a story worth reading. We’re not looking for someone to simply list the songs that were played. The writing should give readers a sense of the room, the performance, the crowd, and what made that particular night interesting.

This role involves attending live shows, interviewing artists when opportunities are available, and working alongside our photographers and editorial team to produce original music coverage.

What You’ll Cover
  • Attend assigned concerts, festivals, and other live-music events and write original reviews.
  • Cover the performance as a whole, artist, crowd, venue atmosphere, standout moments, and anything unexpected.
  • Interview musicians, touring artists, producers, and other people connected to the music scene.
  • Research artists before assignments so interviews and articles go beyond information anyone can find in a press release.
  • Write artist features, previews, music news, and occasional opinion or culture pieces.
  • Work with concert photographers to pair the right images with each story.
  • Turn in clean copy on deadline, particularly when coverage needs to be published shortly after a show.
  • Pitch artists, events, and stories that deserve coverage instead of waiting for every assignment to be handed out.
  • Maintain professional relationships with venues, publicists, promoters, and artist representatives.
What We’re Looking For
  • Strong writing skills and a genuine understanding of music and live performance.
  • Previous journalism, entertainment writing, music blogging, or editorial experience is preferred.
  • Published writing samples or a portfolio that shows your own voice.
  • Able to interview people naturally and ask questions that lead somewhere interesting.
  • Comfortable working independently at busy concerts and events.
  • Good research and fact‑checking habits.
  • Available for evening and weekend assignments when concerts take place.
  • Knowledge of the Southern California music and venue scene is a strong plus.
  • $65,000 – $105,000 annual salary
, depending on experience and published work.
  • Paid vacation and personal time.
  • Paid company holidays.
  • Health benefit options where applicable.
  • Approved concert and assignment expenses covered.
  • Access to assigned concerts, festivals, interviews, and media events.
  • Opportunities to interview and profile established and emerging artists.
  • Professional development and editorial support.
  • Opportunity to grow into Senior Music Writer, Features Editor, or Music Editor.
