Debt Collector

Spruce Power, a leading independent residential solar servicing company, is seeking a Collections Specialist to support billing and collections efforts. This role focuses on driving account resolution and maximizing recovery by ensuring timely follow-up and effective solutions to internal and external billing and delinquency inquiries. The Asset Recovery Collector will manage complex account balances, resolve discrepancies, and secure payment arrangements to improve cash flow and support company recovery goals.

Location:

Houston, TX (Headquarters).

Schedule:

Full time, 40 hours per week. Call Center hours Monday-Thursday 8:00am–7:00pm, Friday 8:00am–6:00pm. No weekends. Training: 2‑week onsite schedule (Monday–Friday 8:00am–6:00pm). Compensation: $19–$21 (plus $1 if bilingual).

Key Responsibilities
  • Communicate with customers via inbound and outbound phone calls.
  • Manage assigned accounts and develop a recovery plan for outstanding debts.
  • Update account status and database regularly.
  • Validate customer information, including addresses, contact information, and authentication steps.
  • Review terms of sales and agreement documents and explain them to customers to increase understanding of contract obligations.
  • Adhere to FDCPA, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Comply with policies and procedures as required.
  • Locate customers using skip trace sites, internet, and credit bureau tools.
  • Work from multiple servicing platforms to investigate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external partners.
  • Comply with requirements when legal action is unavoidable.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 2 years of collections experience.
  • Computer/technical knowledge to change, add, or delete information in servicing platform.
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently for the benefit of the company and customer.
  • Knowledge of FDCPA regulations.
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Basic understanding of consumer agreement documents.
  • Typing speed of at least 30 words per minute with minimal grammatical errors.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and email.
  • Strong math skills.
  • Ability to partner with teammates and other departments.
  • Ability to work unsupervised after initial training.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

Education
