THE ROLE:
Debt Collector

is the nation’s #1 independent residential solar servicing company and offers customers a comprehensive, end‑to‑end servicing solution that includes financial asset management, account services, billing, fleet management, and customer support to third‑party asset owners and retail customers.
Spruce is headquartered in Houston, TX with a presence in New Jersey and California. This role is envisioned to be located in Houston, TX.
- Compensation: $20‑$22 per hour
- Schedule:
Full time, 40 hours per week (Call Center hours Monday‑Thursday 8:00 am–7:00 pm, Friday 8:00 am–6:00 pm) - No weekends
- Structured 2‑week on‑site training (Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am–6:00 pm)
- Communicate with customers via inbound/outbound phone calls.
- Manage assigned accounts and plan action to recover outstanding debts.
- Update account status and database regularly.
- Validate customer information including addresses, contact information, and authentication steps.
- Review terms of sales and agreement documents and explain them to customers to increase understanding of contract obligations.
- Adhere to FDCPA, state and federal laws and regulations.
- Comply with policies and procedures as required.
- Locate customers using skip‑trace sites, internet, and credit bureau.
- Work from multiple servicing platforms to investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external partners.
- Comply with requirements when legal action is unavoidable.
- Minimum 2 years collections experience.
- Technical proficiency to change, add, or delete information in servicing platform.
- Ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently in the best interest of the company and customer.
- Knowledge of FDCPA regulations.
- Critical thinking skills.
- Basic understanding of consumer agreement documents.
- Typing speed of at least 30 words per minute with minimal grammatical errors.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email.
- Strong math skills.
- Ability to work unsupervised after the initial training phase.
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
- Good attendance.
- Ability to adapt to changes.
- Customer service orientation.
- Problem‑solving ability.
A high school diploma is required for this role.
