Overview

Work for a Federally Qualified Health Center. The Dental Assistant I is responsible for preparing patients, sterilizing instruments, setting up rooms, and performing various dental hygiene tasks. A dental radiology certification is required to excel in this role.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support Dental Assistant II, Hygienists, and all Dentists.
  • Deliver a positive patient experience, ensuring patient focus on optimal treatment.
  • Educate patients in oral care and maintain instrument sterility before subsequent patients.
  • Provide chair‑side dental assistance.
  • Deliver postoperative instructions as directed by the dentist.
  • Set up and break down all operatory equipment, instruments, and documents on time to meet regulatory and compliance requirements and keep the doctor on schedule.
  • Clean and maintain all dental equipment and instruments.
  • Perform periapical, bitewing, occlusal, and panoramic radiographs.
  • Assume temporary front desk duties, including answering phones, scheduling appointments, filing charts, copying, and pre‑charting.
  • Comply with all policies and procedures, including Joint Commission Standards.
  • Maintain patient and record confidentiality.
  • Report any patient or clinic concerns to Dental Assistant II promptly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Dental Assistant II, Practice Manager, or Dental Director.
  • Proficiently take impressions using alginate and imperium materials.
Education,

Licensure/Certification
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Registered Dental Assistant license.
Experience, Skills/Abilities
  • Ability to stand for at least one hour.
  • Ability to hear and communicate with dentist or other personnel while wearing masks and holding instruments.
  • Ability to wear latex or vinyl gloves.
Continuing Education and Training Requirements
  • Participate in trainings required by the agency, funding sources, and/or licensure requirements.
