P4
FIP (Precinct 4 Forward Internship Program), is a 9-week paid summer internship for students with a passion for serving others. You will be surrounded by team members who bring "heart, hustle, and higher standards" to work each day. These leaders advance opportunity and justice as they deliver services to and advocate for the residents of Harris County. The team you will be joining is innovative, dynamic, and forward-looking.
We've designed our program to expose students to career opportunities with Harris County and apply what they have learned in the classroom to hands-on projects. P4
FIP provides students the chance to bridge the gap between academic understanding and practical professional experience. Students from all schools are encouraged to apply. Interns will create a community to help support their personal and professional development throughout the summer as they launch their career. Interns will work with a mentor, form relationships with other interns, and engage our Senior Leadership Team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Assist the Planning team in various tasks related to urban and regional planning. This may include conducting research, analyzing data, preparing memorandums, and providing support on special projects. the management of planning efforts including but not limited to: transportation planning, capital planning, community development and plan implementation (Place

* Assist with outreach that would focus on engaging with the community, stakeholders, and other interested parties to gather input and feedback on proposed planning projects. This could include organizing meetings, events, and workshops as well as tabling project-related stations at various P4 events.
* Provide technical and administrative assistance preparing various planning documents including community engagement summaries, GIS analysis, technical memos etc.
* Complete research on various transportation, community, and policy issues and synthesize findings into a briefing for senior staff.
* Provide support on the development of briefing materials and presentations to be presented to a wide range of audiences and stakeholders.
* Prepare correspondence, complete forms, and maintain records and files related to work activities.
* Perform other duties that may be added or changed as the course and scope of the job directs.

Requirements
Education and
Additional Requirements:
* Students working toward an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited four-year college or university in urban planning, community development, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), social work, or related field.
* Minimum GPA of 3.0.
* Proficiency in Microsoft software applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Share Point.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Understanding of urban planning principles and concepts.
* Knowledge of Urban Planning & Community Development practices regionally.
* Proficiency in analyzing large datasets, namely Census data.
* Prior experience working with regional community organizations.
* Utilize good time management skills and effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks/initiatives.
* Self-motivated and team-oriented.
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal & written.
* Ability communicate effectively with co-workers, industry and/or governmental representatives.
* Strong skills using Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
* Adaptability and willingness to learn new skills and tools as needed.
