As an Architect/Technical Designer at PDR, you will join a talented, thoughtful team that works to create meaningful experiences for our clients that allow them to thrive and grow as a business. You should be a fast learner and prepared to work in all aspects of interior design and architecture with a focus on construction documentation, consultant coordination, and construction administration for the team.

An Architect/Technical Designer is highly competent in the production of construction documents and demonstrates strong problem‑solving abilities and professional judgement, earning both the team’s and the client’s trust.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Document Management
  • Participate in the design process and understand the architectural challenges presented by the design.
  • Conduct project field surveys to understand existing conditions and how they impact design.
  • Create high‑performance, parametric architectural models that enable clear documentation of complex geometry and building elements.
  • Work collaboratively with the Project Architect on highly complex projects to create efficient and precise construction documents, with tasks including (but not limited to) set organization and the creation of plans, sections, elevations, schedules and details. On less complex projects, lead the construction documentation effort, assign tasks out to other project staff as necessary and ensure the submission of all required documents to permitting authorities.
  • Understand how relevant building and accessibility codes work and be able to apply that knowledge to all projects.
  • Research, specify and document architectural elements and assemblies.
  • Ensure project deadlines are met and that work assigned is complete and correct.
  • On highly complex projects, participate in construction observation and administration as required, with tasks including but not limited to review of submittals and RFIs, the creation of construction observation reports and punch lists and the resolution of field issues. On less complex projects, lead the construction administration efforts and assign tasks to other project staff as necessary.
Coordination
  • Coordinate with all internal and external project stakeholders throughout the design, documentation and construction administration processes. This includes not only consultants, but specification writers, regulatory agencies, general contractors and select subcontractors (where appropriate and guided by general contractor).
  • Facilitate internal drawing and code reviews with the PDR Technical Director, providing adequate time for team to respond to all comments.
  • Perform consultant drawing coordination with team, including consultant document reviews at project milestones.
  • Keep open communication within the team and with the designated project lead.
  • Understand PDR standards, processes and documentation and mentor junior staff on them as well.
  • Assist team members in performing their own quality control and ensure everyone is conscious of their impact on project profitability and client satisfaction.
  • Learn about and be immersed in the world of interior design and architecture and encourage others to strive for a greater depth and breadth of their technical knowledge.
  • Participate in design reviews, charettes and pin‑ups.
  • Attend company happy hours, internal vendor presentations and external vendor/industry events to expand one’s network and learn about new products and materials.
  • Participate in new business development activities as requested by senior leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Architecture or Interior Design from a CIDA or NCARB‑accredited school.
  • 3-8 years of relevant experience.
  • Registered Architect, Registered Interior Designer or currently seeking either.
  • Encouraged to participate in IIDA, AIA or other relevant professional organization.
