Overview
Faculty (Open Rank), Epilepsy – Neurology (Outpatient + EMU Inpatient), McGovern Medical School — UTHealth Houston is seeking an experienced neurologist clinician or clinician-scientist at Assistant/Associate Professor/Professor, tenure or non-tenure track (depending on qualifications), in the clinical division of Epilepsy, Texas Comprehensive Epilepsy Program (TCEP). The division has outpatient clinics, inpatient services, active clinical, translational, and basic research, and educates medical and graduate students, neurology residents, and fellows.
The Texas Comprehensive Epilepsy Program is the largest tertiary referral epilepsy center in the Southwest United States, with one of the busiest epilepsy surgery programs in the country. There is an active SEEG and MEG program with surgical options ranging from resections to DBS, RNS, and laser ablation. The division has several NIH-funded research programs, including electromagnetic source imaging, epilepsy mortality, treatment outcomes, neuromodulation, epilepsy genetics and rare epilepsies, fMRI, artificial intelligence in epilepsy, and wearable m-health technologies.
The center has strong ties with Neurosurgery, McWilliams School of Biomedical and Informatics, and the UTHealth Houston School of Public Health. The fellowship program includes 8 positions in epilepsy, 3-4 clinical neurophysiology positions, and one position in MEG/SEEG.
- Clinical responsibilities will vary according to the candidate’s career goals (clinician or clinician-scientist with funded effort).
- Provide a maximum of four days of clinic per week and up to 12 weeks of EMU inpatient service.
- Participate in inpatient/outpatient clinical care, research, and educational programs in Epilepsy within the Department of Neurology.
- Teaching opportunities include the bi-annual 8-week epilepsy/EEG course.
- Affiliated with the McGovern Medical School, the 11th largest medical school in the nation, with a robust Neurology residency program and a growing Epilepsy Fellowship program.
- Involvement with the Texas Comprehensive Epilepsy Program's SEEG/MEG programs and surgical options (resections, DBS, RNS, laser ablation).
- Active NIH-funded research programs including electromagnetic source imaging, epilepsy mortality, treatment outcomes, neuromodulation, epilepsy genetics and rare epilepsies, fMRI, AI in epilepsy, and wearable m-health technologies.
- Strong collaborations with Neurosurgery, McWilliams School of Biomedical and Informatics, and UTHealth School of Public Health.
- Fellowship program includes 8 epilepsy positions, 3-4 clinical neurophysiology positions, and one MEG/SEEG position.
- ACGME-accredited neurology residency.
- Fellowship in Epilepsy and related research areas.
- Active Board certifications.
- Licensed in Texas (or eligible to be licensed).
- Interest in clinical research is encouraged but not essential.
