Summary
The Michael
E. DeBakey VA Medical Center is recruiting a full-time physician within Cardiology for a non‑invasive imaging cardiologist. This is an open continuous announcement; applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis and qualified candidates will be considered as vacancies become available.
- United States Citizenship (non‑citizens only when no qualified citizens can be recruited)
- Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a VA‑approved medical school
- Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia
- Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification (ACGME or AOA, or other approved residencies)
- Residents in ACGME/AOA accredited programs who meet basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) on an intermittent or fee‑basis, but PRPs are not independent practitioners and are not privileged
- Proficiency in spoken and written English
- Preferred:
Board eligible or board certified in Clinical Cardiology and Echocardiography;
Level III Echocardiography training; experience in Transesophageal and Stress Echocardiography; experience in Cardiac Computed Tomography and/or Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging
- Read and interpret non‑invasive cardiac imaging studies (echocardiography, cardiac CT, and/or cardiac MRI)
- Perform and supervise cardiac imaging procedures in the Cardiology section, including transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography and stress echocardiography
- Provide CCU and cardiology consult rounding and participate in cardiology clinic activities
- Assist with weekend and holiday call duties as assigned
- Read and interpret ambulatory ECG and ETT studies
- Perform e‑consults and ECG reading for cardiology staff
- Light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds)
- Use of fingers; both hands required
- Walking and standing for 8 hours each
- Rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; depth perception; both eyes required
