About the Position
Join Our Team as a Locum - Physician - General Medicine in Houston, TX

VHS is actively seeking dedicated General Medicine Physicians to provide critical healthcare services through flexible locum positions.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to Veteran healthcare while enjoying competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits. As a provider, you will perform non-treatment Compensation & Pension exams and Separation Health Assessments, playing a vital role in supporting our Nation’s Veterans with professionalism and compassion.

Required Skills:

Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution

Valid state medical license for Texas

Board certification or eligibility in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or related fields

Experience in general medicine practice, with familiarity in compensation and pension evaluations preferred

Strong clinical assessment skills including history taking and physical examinations

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to work independently and manage schedules effectively

Nice to Have

Skills:

Prior experience performing VA exams or in a military healthcare setting

Knowledge of VA-specific protocols and documentation requirements

Skills in physical assessment techniques such as range of motion and muscle strength testing

Comfortable working with electronic medical records and reporting systems

Preferred

Education and Experience:

MD or DO degree, with at least 2 years of post-residency clinical experience

Prior experience in disability evaluation or veteran healthcare settings is highly valued

Demonstrated ability to perform concise, thorough evaluations within tight time frames

Other Requirements:

This is a PRN, ongoing position with flexible scheduling options including half-day or full-day shifts

Providers must have their own office for those seeking to see Veterans outside of a VES facility; the office must be within 50 miles of the specified city

All work is primarily interview-based, with some physical assessments; no treatment or prescribing involved

Willingness to perform periodic administrative follow-ups such as report writing and addendums

Local candidates only, with travel included in rates

Compensation & Benefits:

Hourly rate of $624.00, with flat rates of $800 for half-day shifts and $1600 for full days

One-time bonus of $650 upon completing initial training and first exams
