About the Position
Join Our Team as a Locum - Physician - General Medicine Houston, TX
Are you a dedicated physician seeking a flexible and impactful opportunity to serve Veterans while maintaining your professional autonomy? We are looking for experienced General Medicine providers to deliver essential Compensation & Pension exams and Separation Health Assessments across Texas.
This role offers competitive compensation, flexible scheduling, and the chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Veterans.
In this position, you will perform interview-based evaluations and physical assessments, including range of motion and muscle strength testing, without the need for prescribing or treatment. Whether working from your own office or at a VES facility, your expertise will support Veterans’ benefits determination processes. The role is ongoing, PRN, and ideal for providers with a background in family medicine, internal medicine, orthopedic surgery, or general medicine, particularly those familiar with compensation and pension exams.
Required Skills:
Medical degree and current licensure in Texas
Proven experience in family medicine, internal medicine, orthopedic surgery, or general medicine
Strong interview and physical assessment skills
Ability to perform concise, report-driven examinations
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Nice to Have
Skills:
Prior experience with compensation and pension evaluations
Familiarity with Veterans' health and benefits processes
Ability to work independently and manage flexible schedules
Preferred
Education and Experience:
MD or DO degree
Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in relevant fields
Previous experience with veterans' assessments is a plus
Other Requirements:
Must have own office within 50 miles of Houston or be willing to provide exams at VES facilities
Ability to complete exams efficiently, including report submissions and addendums
Commitment to participating in rapid credentialing and onboarding processes
No travel reimbursements for certifications or portal training
Start date:
February 13, 2026
Compensation:
Half-day (4-hour) shift: $800 flat rate (includes exam and report time)
Full-day (5+ hours) shift: $1,600 flat rate
One-time bonus of $650 upon completing all training and first exams
Hourly and overtime rates are not applicable
