Position Summary
This position provides clinical leadership and expertise to maintain high standards of patient care. The Assistant Medical Director will provide input in development of standards, policies, and procedures for clinical practice in the health center. The role also involves maintaining relationships with referring physicians to ensure timely follow-up, supporting collaboration among specialists, primary care physicians, nurses, and other staff to meet patient needs.
Qualifications- Medical degree from an accredited school of medicine.
- Current unrestricted license from the Texas Medical Board to practice as a physician in the State of Texas.
- Annual continuing medical education as required by Board specialty.
- Registered and holding current DEA and other certificates required to legally operate a practitioner in Texas.
- Hospital privileges at designated area hospitals if required for specialty.
- Certified BLS or BLS equivalent.
- Proficiency in computer skills and electronic health records.
- Bilingual – English/Spanish preferred.
- Render professional services within scope of training and responsibility, in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Provide appropriate, continuous care and supervision.
- Direct and coordinate diagnostic and treatment services for patients.
- Assist the Medical Director in implementing federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to medical practice.
- Update medical alert information for medical staff regarding CDC guidelines, infectious disease outbreaks, and pharmaceutical advisories.
- Supervise subordinate providers and respond to diagnostic and treatment queries.
- Establish and maintain a chart review system for patient care by subordinate providers; promote accurate, complete documentation.
- Participate in call coverage with other approved medical providers.
- Enforce standards and policies for all clinics.
- Promote staff and provider compliance with UDS, Meaningful Use, and grant measurements.
- Maintain mechanism for evaluating test results and correspondence from absent providers, ensuring timely decisions and appropriate care.
- Complete timely evaluations on providers or staff under supervision.
- Approve time off and timecards for providers under supervision.
- Assume duties of Chief Medical Officer if needed, temporarily.
- Attend and participate in clinic, departmental meetings and other clinic functions.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including participation in safety programs and emergency response teams.
