The School of Art in the Kathryn G. McGovern College of the Arts at the University of Houston is seeking applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Professor of Practice with expertise in Digital Fabrication and Arts and Technology beginning in the fall of 2026. The primary responsibility of this faculty member will be to run the Arts and Technology Center of the School of Art.
Professors of Practice teach a 4‑4 course load. The person serving in this role will receive five course releases (three in fall semesters and two in spring semesters) in exchange for substantial service work managing the Arts & Technology Center (ATC), Equipment Checkout Room (ECR), and Elgin Street Studios Digital Lab with duties including:
- Maintenance and operations of all equipment and spaces, including the small retail store in the ATC
- Supervision of ATC and ECR student employees
- Ensuring the continuity of ATC operations during summer months
- Other responsibilities as assigned
The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses as assigned, including ARTS 2348:
Digital Tools and ARTS 3383:
Digital Fabrication.
MFA preferred. Candidates should have experience teaching undergraduate and graduate students, supervising arts production spaces, and managing student employees. Candidates should provide evidence of research and scholarly activity, including the establishment of a national reputation and recognition of the candidate’s fabrication or printing skills.
