Position: Lunch Aide (Part-Time)

Overview

Part-time position: 2-2.5 hours per day.

Objective:

The Part-Time Lunch Aide assists in maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly environment during student lunch periods. This role involves supervising students in the cafeteria and/or on the playground, assisting with meal distribution, ensuring proper behavior, and promoting a positive, respectful atmosphere.

Typically, this position is part-time during school lunch hours.

Essential Functions
  • Supervise students in the cafeteria, playground, or designated lunch areas to ensure safety and appropriate behavior.
  • Assist younger students with opening food containers, using utensils, and cleaning up after meals.
  • Monitor food lines and help maintain an orderly flow of students.
  • Encourage good table manners, cooperation, and respectful interactions.
  • Respond calmly and effectively to student issues or conflicts; report serious concerns to appropriate staff.
  • Clean tables, chairs, and floors before and after lunch periods; dispose of trash properly.
  • Assist custodial staff with maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards.
  • Ensure compliance with school policies and safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.

  • To take precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.

Working Conditions
  • Work is performed primarily indoors (cafeteria) and occasionally outdoors (playground).
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting (up to 25 lbs.).
  • Exposure to noise and varying temperatures depending on location.
Required Education and Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Required:
    Bi-lingual (English and Spanish)
  • Required:
    Prior experience working with children.
  • Ability to supervise and manage groups of students in a positive, fair, and consistent manner.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Dependability, patience, and a caring attitude toward children.
