Contract:

Purpose:

Responsible for the coordination of special education programs and the implementation of the ARD process. Qualifications/

Skills:

Education/Certification:

* Master's degree or higher from recognized, accredited college or university, preferred.

* Valid Texas Teacher Certificate or Teaching Certificate from out of state appropriate for position preferred.

* Valid Texas supervisor's, mid-management, principalship or licensed professional counselor's certification, diagnostician's certificate, licensed by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists as a LSSP, certified in special education, or qualified for a special assignment permit in supervision, mid-management or counseling preferred.

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

* Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.

* Proficient in the effective use of technology.

* Physical capacity to meet needs of students with physical disabilities.

* Ability to work effectively with both adults and children.

Experience:

* Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience as a classroom teacher, preferred.

Major Duties and

Responsibilities:
Coordination of Services:

* Collaborate with general and special education teachers, administrators and parents to provide education support for students with disabilities.

* Provide technical assistance to instructional staff concerning the teaching/learning process.

* Assist general education teachers in implementation of individual student accommodations and modifications as designed by ARD committees.

* Assist teachers and assistant principals in designing effective behavioral interventions for students experiencing behavioral difficulties.

* Serve and chair as administrative representative for ARD meetings, as assigned. Provide staff development for campus personnel related to Special Education processes, requirements, etc.

* Perform functions related to assessment as it relates to the special education evaluation process.

Student Growth and Development:

* Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.

* Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by campus principal.

* Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of school district.

* Assist with needs of students with physical disabilities.

* Schedule student staffings to support and resolve student, teacher or parental concerns.

* Provide leadership to programming and course selection for students with disabilities.

* Keep abreast of current issues and methodologies in the education of students with disabilities.

Classroom Management and Organization:

* Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of students. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.

* Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. Assist in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.

* Attend required meetings and complete required reports.

Communication:

* Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals and teachers. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents and community members.

* Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

* Collaborate with others to provide for learner needs.
