The University of Houston Department of Economics invites applications for a promotion-eligible, non-tenure-track, Instructional Assistant Professor position to begin August 2026.
The University of Houston is a Carnegie Tier One public research university with over 47,000 students. Our department offers BA, BS, and PhD degrees in Economics, and MA degrees in Applied Economics and has over 1,000 undergraduate majors.

The primary responsibilities of the Instructional Assistant Professor will be teaching. The teaching load will be 6 sections per academic year, divided between the Fall and Spring semesters. The courses will be at the undergraduate and master's levels. Experience in and enthusiasm for teaching courses with strong writing, research, or quantitative analysis components are preferred. Candidates interested in teaching macroeconomics, international economics, or financial economics are especially encouraged to apply.
In addition to the teaching responsibilities, the Instructional Assistant Professor is expected to assist with the department's administrative activities. This administrative role will include acting as a liaison with external partners, advising student clubs, and assisting at-risk students. We anticipate that responsibilities may change as the needs of the undergraduate and master's degree programs evolve.
Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Economics or are expected to complete their Ph.D. in Economics by August 2026.
