The Lycée International de Houston, LIH, wasestablishedin 2017 by passionate individuals from different cultural backgrounds and founders who recognized the need for a bilingual school in the Houston community. Their goal was to equip students with the necessary skills to thrive in an ever-growing multicultural global society. As the sole accredited 18-month through 12th-grade bilingual school in Houston, the Lycée International de Houston offers a unique dual-language immersion program in both French and English.

By combining the analytical thinking methods of the French Ministry of Education (AEFE) with the dynamic American Curriculum, the schoolremainsdedicated tomaintainingacademic excellence. The Lycée International de Houston has obtained accreditations by esteemed organizations such as the International Baccalaureate (IB) Organization, the French Ministry of Education, and Texas Alliance of Accredited Private Schools (TAAPS). Additionally, our school is affiliated with the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE).

Job Description

Lycée International de Houston is seeking a
History and Social Studies Teacher for Middle and High School levels
for the
School Year
. The ideal candidate will haveexpertisein teaching history and social studies within the Texas state curriculum, fostering critical thinking, and creating engaging lessons that connect students to past and present societal issues. Lycée International de Houston values excellence, rigor, and kindness, and we seek educators who share our vision of preparing multilingual, academically, and socially prepared students to become leaders in their communities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (preferred) or Bachelor’s degree in History, Social Studies, or a closely related field
  • Minimum three years of middle and/or high school teaching experience
  • Strong knowledge of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for Social Studies
  • Experience teaching IB Social Studies (SL/HL) and/or AP courses
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency with instructional technology and digital learning platforms
  • Positive, adaptable, and open-minded approach within a multicultural school environment
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
  • Enthusiasm for teaching History, Social Studies, and the Humanities
  • Willingness and flexibility to contribute to school life through coaching, clubs, or student activities
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States

The Social Studies teacher delivers engaging, inquiry-based instruction across middle and high school grade levels, preparing students for success in TEKS-aligned coursework and IB/AP programs while fostering historical thinking and global awareness.

  • Teach History and Social Studies courses, including U.S. History, Texas History, World History, Government, Economics, and Speech & Debate
  • Design and implement rigorous, student-centered lessons aligned with TEKS and IB/AP standards
  • Promote critical thinking through discussions, debates, research, and project-based learning
  • Integrate diverse perspectives and real-world connections into instruction
  • Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners, including EAL students

Assessment & Communication

  • Assess student learning using formative and summative methods
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback and communicate student progress regularly with families
  • Build strong, supportive relationships with students and parents

Collaboration & Community Engagement

  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum alignment and interdisciplinary projects
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives
  • Contribute to extracurricular activities such as history clubs, speech and debate, student publications, or academic competitions
  • Support school operations through supervision duties and participation in events (open houses, conferences, exhibitions, field trips)

Physical & Professional Expectations

  • Ability to move throughout the classroom to support instruction andmonitorstudent engagement
  • Active participation in academic, extracurricular, and supervisory responsibilities
  • Commitment to ongoing professional growth and best practices in social studies education
