Primary Purpose of DepartmentThe Office of Alumni Engagement’s primary purpose is to develop, coordinate and promote programs for our alumni to keep them connected and involved with UNC Charlotte and one another. The Office of Alumni Engagement serves UNC Charlotte alumni and students in order to strengthen connections and encourage involvement with the institution. The Office of Alumni Engagement is within the division of University Advancement.
PrimaryPurpose of Position
The Assistant Director of Affinity Networks is responsible for managing alumni affinity chapters and networks which are defined as groups of alumni who share common interests and experiences. The position is responsible for managing volunteer boards and strategically developing programs, activities and communications to connect, serve and engage alumni within each affinity chapter or network. The Assistant Director of Affinity Networks is responsible for the creation and management of additional networks aligned with the priorities of the Office of Alumni Engagement.
The position is also responsible for providing events and programs for communities that may not have a formal affinity chapter or network.
Summary of Position Responsibilities- Lead the effort to identify, recruit, onboard, train, and engage a volunteer board/committee for each affinity chapter and network under their management.
- Partner with volunteer board leadership to set yearly program calendar and goals.
- Partner with volunteer board leadership to develop meeting agendas and execute programs and initiatives created to engage and connect alumni with each other and the university.
- Develop events and programs to engage alumni with shared interests and experiences who may not be members of an established network or chapter.
- Develop and manage budgets for each of the affinity networks, together with the Director of Alumni Engagement Programming.
- Identify alumni with inclination to deepen their engagement with the university. Conduct monthly one-on-one meetings with alumni to provide awareness about involvement opportunities and strengthen their connection with the university.
- Other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice Chancellor of Alumni Engagement, Director of Alumni Engagement Programming, and/or Associate Director of Alumni Networks.
- This position includes significant night and weekend obligations related to volunteer meetings and network events.
- 2-3 years of experience working in alumni engagement or a closely related field.
- Experience with volunteer management and event planning.
- Strong collaborative skills and ability to work effectively as a team member.
- A high degree of energy, creativity, and initiative.
- Ability to interact with high level individuals, maintaining a high level of professionalism, judgment, and confidentiality.
- Capable of managing competing priorities and multiple deadlines, and seeing projects through from beginning to end.
- The ability to travel and participate in evening and weekend activities.
