PRIMARY
PURPOSE:
Provide students with engaging and developmentally appropriate music instruction that fosters creativity, musical literacy, performance skills, and an appreciation for the arts. The Elementary Music Teacher promotes student growth through vocal and instrumental instruction aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and district curriculum standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification
* Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
* Valid Texas teaching certificate with appropriate Music (EC12) certification
* Kodaly Certification Levels 1-3 (or willingness to acquire these within 3 years) preferred
Experience
* Student teaching or classroom teaching experience preferred
* Experience directing elementary performances preferred
MAJOR
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Instructional Planning
* Develop and implement lesson plans aligned to state standards and district curriculum.
* Incorporate singing, movement, rhythm, music theory, and basic instrument instruction.
* Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs.
* Integrate technology and cross-curricular connections where appropriate.
Classroom Environment
* Establish and maintain a structured, engaging, and safe learning environment.
* Implement effective classroom management strategies.
* Promote student confidence and creativity in musical expression.
Student Assessment
* Assess student progress through performance-based and formative assessments.
* Maintain accurate grade records in accordance with district policy.
* Provide feedback to students and communicate progress with parents.
Performance & Program Development
* Plan and direct campus music programs, performances, and special events.
* Prepare students for assemblies, holiday programs, and community performances.
* Maintain and inventory musical instruments and equipment.
* Directing honors choir-Role does require extra rehearsals, preparations, and performances outside of standard contract hours.
Professional Responsibilities
* Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and campus events.
* Collaborate with colleagues to support campus goals.
* Follow district policies and maintain professional ethics.
Supervisory Responsibilities
May supervise students during performances and rehearsals.
Working Conditions
* Frequent standing, walking, and directing student movement.
* Occasional lifting of instruments and equipment (up to 30 pounds).
* May require evening performances or events.
Works a 187-day calendar.
* Salary is commensurate with experience
* Minimum Salary $66,000 for fully certified teachers
* Please note that this role requires in-person attendance and is not eligible for remote work.
Sheldon ISD will accept applications for this position through March 2, 2026. After this date, applications will continue to be accepted in the event a suitable candidate is not identified.
