St. Mark’s 6th Grade Language Arts Teacher is a crucial position for the students, families, and faculty k’s Episcopal School. While this position encompasses many different duties, its primary function is to plan, organize and implement an appropriate Language Arts instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.
Essential Duties- Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences.
- Develop and follow a scope of sequence and lesson plans.
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
- Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.
- Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students' varying needs.
- Regularly review materials and request new materials as needed.
- Provide appropriate assignments and materials for students.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development.
- Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.
- Keep up to date with developments in subject area, teaching resources, and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities.
- Maintain professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings, and other professional activities.
- Creates an effective learning environment through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and activity/learning centers.
- Serve as a Middle School Advisor, guiding a small group of students in acquisition of study skills, executive functioning skills, and character development.
- Participate in school meetings and parent conferences.
- Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
- Design and teach two Middle School electives.
- Supervise lunch duty and dismissal duty on a regular basis.
- Provide materials for substitute teachers.
- Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Head of Middle School.
- Works in a sometimes highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges.
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
- Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds; to bend, stoop, and reach overhead.
- Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled office environment.
- Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
