Summary

Provide the expertise and knowledge that supports the college curriculum and programs. Establish courses following accepted higher education standards, teach students using a variety of effective methodologies, and provide engagement and support activities that encourage student learning. The Instructional Faculty role encompasses teaching, learning, academic advising, professional development, and institutional and community service. The incumbent will teach the maximum load of equated hours as indicated in the Faculty Guidelines each semester in area(s) of competency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teaching – Demonstrate skill and knowledge in teaching the discipline; continuously improve instruction quality; develop and use syllabi; plan and implement varied teaching methods; evaluate student progress; maintain accurate records; recommend textbooks; teach courses at varying times and locations; use equipment responsibly; demonstrate competence in classroom technology.
  • Academic Advising – Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and community; provide office hours and electronic communication; advise on instructional and program‑specific issues; deliver presentations on program details; create and maintain a dedicated website; collaborate with Chair on advising activities as per faculty guidelines.
  • Professional Development – Set annual objectives for growth; stay current in discipline developments; adopt supportive technologies; participate in evaluation processes for self, department, and college.
  • Institutional and Community Service – Participate in scheduled service activities (opening week, conference days, commencement); join discipline committees and meetings; meet policy procedures; engage in college activities (student, faculty, community); support accreditation standards; assist in departmental planning, budgeting, and curriculum review; aid articulation with secondary and post‑secondary institutions.
Qualifications
  • Education – Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate hours in Dance; or Master’s in Dance; MFA in Dance preferred.
  • Experience – Minimum of three years teaching; college‑level teaching experience preferred.
  • Portfolio – Required portfolio of choreography, production, and performance experiences.
  • Teaching Availability – Willing and able to teach day or evening classes at multiple city sites.
  • Computer Skills – Proficiency with Blackboard Vista or similar online platforms.
  • Interpersonal Skills – Excellent communication with diverse professional, community, and student populations.
  • Organization & Planning – Strong organizational skills and planning ability.
  • Cultural Sensitivity – Sensitivity to diverse backgrounds and students with disabilities.
  • Student Leadership – Ability to inspire and motivate students in learning‑centered environments.
  • Self‑discipline – Ability to manage responsibilities effectively and work with others.
