SUMMARY
Provide the expertise and knowledge that support the high school curriculum. Establish courses following accepted secondary education standards, teach students using a variety of effective methodologies, and provide engagement and support activities that encourage student learning. The role encompasses teaching, learning, academic advising, and professional development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Plan and teach a program of study in accordance with Texas Education Agency and HCCS guidelines.
- Demonstrate effective classroom management techniques.
- Continuously improve instruction through student achievement reviews and innovative methodologies.
- Develop and submit a syllabus for each course within college, discipline, and departmental guidelines.
- Plan, develop, and implement instructional methods to assist students in mastering course objectives.
- Provide instruction for students with differing learning styles and educational backgrounds.
- Evaluate students and measure progress toward achievement of stated course objectives.
- Inform students and parents of progress in a timely manner.
- Keep accurate student records and submit related reports and forms within requested timelines.
- Teach courses at a variety of times and locations in response to institutional needs.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Keep pace with developments in classroom management techniques and student behavior.
- Learn and apply technologies that support student learning.
- Participate in the evaluation process for self, department, and college.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures of HCCS.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above. The qualifications listed below are representative of but not limited to the education, experience, knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.
EDUCATION- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university required.
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level area assigned.
- For English/ELA teaching assignments, ESL certification preferred.
- Physical Education Teachers:
Current automated external defibrillator (AED) certificate.
- Three (3) years of teaching experience required.
- Willing and able to teach day or evening classes at a number of sites around the city.
- Knowledge and skill in a variety of computer usage and software are required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse professional, community, and student population.
- Utilize good organizational and planning skills.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio‑economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate students in a learning‑centered environment.
- Exhibit self‑disciplined and able to effectively manage others.
