PRIMARY
PURPOSE:
The ‘At Risk’ Teacher is responsible for providing academic interventions for students identified as at-risk and preparing these students for academic success. The teacher implements the District instructional program and educational philosophy in the designated subject area or grade level in accordance with District goals, policies and procedures. All employees of SISD are expected to act with integrity, support organizational goals, communicate clearly and respectfully, champion the needs of our students, and drive continuous improvement.
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
Preferred:
- At least one year of student teaching or approved internship
- Knowledge of subjects assigned
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct at-risk students and manage their behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to analyze student performance data
- Knowledge of Professional Learning Communities
- Willingness to work in small learning communities
- Teaches in accordance with staff assignment.
- Displays effective teaching practices to ensure authentic student engagement and learning.
- Designs effective lesson plans with immediate and long-range goals.
- Designs lessons that demonstrate real-world relevance and integration.
- Chooses appropriate materials and activities.
- Presents subject matter clearly and engagingly.
- Coordinates and plans with team members.
- Monitors student performance using formative and summative assessments.
- Analyzes student performance data and develops a plan for student success.
- Implements the RTI process when appropriate.
- Participates in professional learning communities.
- Utilizes technology to support and enhance instruction.
- Works on inter-disciplinary teams to focus on curriculum integration, relevance and student success.
- Maintains classroom environment conducive to learning and manages procedures effectively.
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date records for student performance, textbooks, materials, and funds as provided by the District.
- Cooperates with counselors, administrators, parents and staff to place students in the most effective educational settings.
- Instructs students in school safety and emergency drill procedures.
- Participates in co-curricular activities as appropriate to the subject area or area of interest.
The usual and customary methods of performing this job require:
Prolonged standing, sitting, stooping, bending, reaching, and repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer. May require lifting up to 10 lbs. Travel within the district and statewide. Mental demands include solving problems, interpreting data and policies, applying current research and theory, and effective oral and written communication with emotional control under stress.
