Job Description Summary / TWC Summary
Under general supervision manages the general legal reference and research services including computer-assisted research to faculty, students and other patrons. Oversees all library operations on the weekend and during evening hours, which includes operation of the Circulation/Reserve desk, reference and informational assistance to patrons, collection, shelving and maintenance of library materials and assisting in other capacities as needed. Ensures that the library opens and closes on time following proper procedures.
Teaches two sections of legal research courses during the academic year.
- Assumes primary responsibility for all library services during the evening and weekends, including the coordination and supervision of circulation, reserve, collection management and photocopy services.
- Provides general legal reference and research services and takes responsibility for day-to-day service and total operation of the department during the assigned hours.
- Insures that the Library opens and closes on time using proper procedures.
- Collects reference statistics on a weekly or biweekly basis for Library reports. Insures that other staff responsible for reference services and students working the Circulation desk record reference statistics on the reference statistic sheets. Tabulates and reports reference statistics monthly.
- Assists in training and supervising student workers for the department.
- Prepares user aids such as bibliographies, user guides, research and instructional-based pathfinders, exhibits, newsletters, and blogs on the library to assist patrons using the library.
- Serves as liaison to individual faculty members by maintaining personal contacts and telephone contacts regarding research projects.
- Performs on-line database searches.
- Required to teach two sections of the legal research courses during the academic year.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Juris Doctorate degree.
Masters of Library Science (MLS) preferred.
Valid Texas Driver’s License preferred.

- Two (2) years of experience.
- Previous law library or library work preferred.
- Limited standing and/or walking.
- Handling light weight objects.
- Using or carrying equipment.
- Stoop, bend or lift.
- May require work evening and weekends.
