Primary

Purpose:

Assist Teachers, both Sped and Gen Ed, and students who require special education services in the special education and general education settings.

Qualifications/

Skills:

Education/Certification:

* Minimum of 48 college hours or high school diploma/equivalent plus pass a District Assessment.

* Educational Aide Certification.

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

* Ability to work with children using appropriate interpersonal skills.

* Background related to working with children and parents.

* Physical capacity to lift, transfer and otherwise assist students with physical disabilities (e.g. ability to lift 50 lbs.).

* Fluent in English (speaking and writing).

* Knowledge regarding Autism and/or behavior preferred.

* Bus driver training as needed, or as required.

Major Duties and

Responsibilities:

Instructional Support:

* Adhere to Texas Education Agency and district policies and procedures.

* Assist in carrying out the instructional program under the supervision of the teaching personnel.

* Follow teacher instruction and guidance.

* Assist with teacher planned activities, exercises and drills.

Student Management:

* Assist in maintaining student records.

Other:

* Participate in planned in-service and professional growth activities related to Special Education and other topics.

* Perform other duties as required.

Supervisory

Responsibilities:

None Equipment Used:

Wheelchair, ramp, personal computer and various office equipment.

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands:

* Maintain emotional control under stress.

* Work with frequent interruptions.

* This position requires regular in-person interaction with the public.

Physical Demands:

* Repetitive hand motions.

* Prolonged use of the computer.

* Frequent sitting, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling.

* Moving small stacks of textbooks, boxes, equipment and other campus equipment.
