PRIMARY PURPOSEThe Middle School Teacher is responsible for implementing the District instructional program and educational philosophy in the subject area or grade level designated in accordance with District goals, policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONSRequired:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
Preferred:
- At least one year of student teaching or approved internship
- Knowledge of subjects assigned
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to analyze student performance data
- Knowledge of lesson design qualities
- Knowledge of Professional Learning Communities
- Willingness to work in small learning communities
- Teach in accordance with staff and school programs.
- Display effective teaching practices to ensure authentic student engagement, including:
- Designing effective lesson plans with immediate and long-range goals.
- Designing lessons that demonstrate real-world relevance.
- Using time effectively.
- Choosing appropriate materials.
- Presenting subject matter clearly.
- Coordinating and planning with team.
- Monitoring student performance using formative and summative assessments.
- Analyzing student performance data and developing plans for student growth.
- Implementing the RTO process when appropriate.
- Participating in professional learning communities.
- Utilizing technology to support and enhance instruction.
- Engaging in interdisciplinary teams to focus on curriculum integration, relevance, and student learning.
- Administer classroom environment to create a conducive learning atmosphere, including:
- Organizing procedures for effective classroom management.
- Organizing the assigned teaching area efficiently, appealingly, and safely.
- Providing flexibility for individual and group instruction.
- Practicing positive discipline techniques that foster student self-control and responsibility.
- Maintaining a positive attitude in working with all school community members.
- Working individually with students in tutorials when needed.
- Cooperate with school personnel in providing for student:
- Supervising behavior and safety of students in classes, between classes, and during school-related activities on and off campus.
- Working with counselors, administrators, parents, and other staff members to place students in the most effective educational setting.
- Instructing students in school safety and emergency drills.
- Participating in special activities and programs provided for students.
- Cooperating with and supporting co-curricular activities.
- Participating in co-curricular activities appropriate to the subject area or area of interest.
- Working with administrators and maintenance staff to ensure student safety in the classroom, hallways, laboratories, and other facilities.
- Initiate communications with parents to inform and keep them updated on student behavior, attendance, and progress.
- Cooperate with appropriate record-keeping responsibilities, maintaining accurate records on the online gradebook, attendance, materials, and contacts, and meeting required formats and timelines.
- Exemplify professionalism, including collaboration with staff and administrators, participation in assessment and evaluation, promoting district vision and campus policies, staying current in education, technology, and instruction through professional development, adhering to Texas Education Code of Ethics, complying with state, district, and campus policies, and completing campus improvement activities.
- Perform other appropriate duties as assigned.
The job requires physical mobility, standing, prolonged sitting, some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and traveling within the district and statewide. Mental demands include problem solving, interpreting data, policies, and research, effective communication, and emotional control under stress.
