Latin Teacher – Pin Oak Middle School (Houston ISD)
Pin Oak Middle School, Houston ISD’s premier foreign language magnet campus, is seeking a passionate and dynamic Latin teacher to join its thriving World Languages department for the upcoming school year.
Pin Oak currently offers students the opportunity to study six world languages in a rigorous and engaging academic environment that emphasizes global citizenship, critical thinking, and communication skills. The Latin program is well-established and vibrant, with dedicated sections at the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade levels and strong student interest across the campus.
The program also features an active and successful Junior Classical League (JCL), with students regularly participating in academic competitions, conventions, Certamen, and cultural events. The ideal candidate will be excited to contribute both inside and outside the classroom by fostering student enthusiasm for Latin language, Roman culture, mythology, and Classics more broadly.
Responsibilities- Teach middle school Latin courses across grades 6–8
- Develop engaging, student-centered lessons aligned with program goals
- Support and help grow the campus Junior Classical League program
- Collaborate with colleagues in the World Languages department and broader school community
- Promote a positive, academically rigorous classroom culture
- Valid Texas teaching certification (or ability to obtain certification)
- Strong content knowledge in Latin and Classical studies
- Passion for middle school education and language instruction
- Experience with Cambridge Latin Course preferred but not required
- Experience with JCL, Certamen, or extracurricular language activities is a plus
