Salary Range: $20.00 To $25.00 Hourly
The Parris Foundation TRIO Upward Bound program serves low-income & first-generation students from the Alief ISD and Fort Bend ISD schools with the mission to help these students succeed in high school, graduate, and enroll in college. Part-time summer instructors will serve students in the Parris Foundation/TRIO Upward Bound program at one of our Summer Component sites in Alief Independent School District or Fort Bend Independent School District.
The job will be up to 20 hours a week.
- Teaching summer courses in high school Spanish/Foreign Language during the first five weeks of Summer.
- Preparing course outline and course materials for the designated class.
- Maintaining a daily log of student attendance and participation.
- Talking with students about the importance of post-secondary education & Post-secondary education completion.
- Model positive behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible when interacting with colleagues, students, parents, and the community.
- Monitor and evaluate student outcomes regularly.
- Provide and maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning and maintaining the material studied.
- Employ various instructional techniques consistent with the needs and capabilities of individual students and student groups.
- Maintain an appropriate working relationship with students.
- Inform counselors and supplemental/academic instructors of any academic issues that impede tutorial progress.
- Demonstrate, through mentoring, a commitment to assist socio‑economically disadvantaged students in developing skills necessary for success in college.
- Utilize the full resources of the Parris Foundation to benefit the students.
- Maintain regular on‑time attendance, including required faculty and TRIO program meetings.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director
The Upward Bound instructors must demonstrate a mastery of the designated subject areas. Exhibit sensitivity toward students in the TRIO Upward Bound programs. Candidates will be required to attend training paid by the Parris Foundation. Applicants with experience in teaching, peer tutoring, mentoring, and demonstrating leadership potential are preferred.
Requirements- 3.00 G.P.A. Required (3.50 G.P.A. Preferred)
- Mastery in one of the subjects of designation
- At least one year of teaching secondary education
- Minimal requirement:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution
$20.00 to $25.00 per hour
ScheduleInstructors will have classes up to four (4) hours daily for instruction and one (1) hour for preparation Monday through Thursday during the Upward Bound Summer component.
Program DescriptionThe Parris Foundation Upward Bound is a TRIO program 100% federally funded by the US Department of Education. TRIO Upward Bound grant is designed to support its high school participants' educational needs by providing them with the information and services they need to graduate high school and enroll in postsecondary education successfully.
