    Purpose:

    Responsible for implementing instruction in the assigned subject area(s) in a manner that fosters attainment of each student's maximum potential.
Qualifications / Skills
  • Education/Certification
    • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
    • Valid Texas Teacher Certificate or teaching certificate from an out‑of‑state jurisdiction appropriate for the position. ESL certification required during the first year if not already obtained.
    • Content exam and Science of Teaching Reading exam requirements met, if applicable.
    • Certification must meet requirements for becoming and remaining qualified for this position in a manner required by Federal and/or State law.

    • Proficient in the effective use of technology.
    • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Instructional Strategies
    • Adhere to the district's philosophy of instruction and develop lesson plans that fulfill curriculum requirements.
    • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
    • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
    • Work collaboratively with special education teachers to modify curricula for special education students.
    • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aides and volunteers.
    • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  • Student Growth and Development
    • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
    • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
    • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
    • Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.
  • Classroom Management and Organization
    • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for student development.
    • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
    • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
    • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Communication
    • Maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
    • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Professional Growth and Development
    • Participate in staff development activities to improve job‑related skills.
    • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies.
    • Compile, maintain, and file reports, records, and documents required by the district.
    • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
