SUMMARY Provide the expertise and knowledge that support the college curriculum and programs. Establish courses following accepted higher education standards, teach students using a variety of effective methodologies and provide engagement and support activities that encourage student learning. The role of the Instructional Faculty encompasses teaching and learning, academic advising, professional development and institutional and community service.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include:
- Teaching: Demonstrate skill and/or knowledge in teaching discipline; make continuous efforts to improve instruction; develop and use a syllabus; plan and use innovative teaching methods; evaluate students; keep accurate records; review and recommend textbooks; teach at various times and modalities; use equipment responsibly; demonstrate competence and interest in technology; submit grades on time.
- Academic Advising: Maintain relationships with students, colleagues, and the community; provide access through office hours, electronic communication, and other methods; advise students on instructional or program‑specific issues; make presentations on academic fields or programs; work with the chair to take on advising activities as needed.
- Professional Development: Establish annual objectives for growth; keep pace with developments in the discipline; learn and apply innovative technologies that support student learning; participate in the evaluation process for self, department, and college.
- Institutional and Community Service: Participate in scheduled institutional service activities; attend discipline committee or program meetings; act in department, college, or system meetings; adhere to all policies and procedures of HCCS; engage in college‑related activities such as student recruitment and retention; help maintain accreditation standards; assist in planning departmental objectives and budgets; review and revise program curricula; assist in articulation with secondary and post‑secondary institutions.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Master’s degree required;
Master’s degree in health sciences or related field preferred; industry certifications/licenses preferred and must be maintained. - Experience: 3 years experience in human services, health science or a related area required.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Willing and able to teach day or evening classes at multiple sites; computer proficiency; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; good organizational and planning skills; sensitivity to students with diverse backgrounds and disabilities; ability to inspire and motivate students; self‑disciplined and able to manage others.
