Primary Purpose:
To maintain, organize and administer the overall campus choir program in a way that will encourage each participating student to achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and teamwork, and an increased level of self-esteem.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's degree in Music from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate for music and level assigned
- ESL Certification preferred or ESL Certification required within two (2) years of employment beginning with teachers hired in 2010-11 school year
- Knowledge of subjects assigned
- General knowledge of design and delivery issues related to alignment for best results in student achievement
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Student teaching or approved internship
Instructional Strategies
- Direct school vocal performers, including concert choir, soloists, and ensembles.
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district's curriculum program and maintain evidence of written proof.
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
- Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect accommodation for individual needs of students assigned.
- Conduct assessments of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
- Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Cooperate with other members of staff for planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
- Plan and supervise purposeful assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
- Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
- Assist students in analyzing and improving study methods and habits.
- Consistently assess student achievement through formal and informal assessments and use results to plan instructional activities.
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
- Schedule on-going weekly sectionals or rehearsals to advance student achievement for music students.
- Demonstrate proficient musical skills within the classroom setting.
- Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
- Participate in district defined music activities, festivals, and exhibitions.
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
- Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies, administrative regulations and IEPs.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Keep informed and comply with all safety precautions pertaining to music supplies and instruments.
- Present positive role model for students, support mission of school district.
- Establish and maintain open communications by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
- Communicate positively and professionally while serving as an ambassador of the district's Arts programs.
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Articulate the district's mission and goals in areas of assigned responsibilities to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
- Demonstrate awareness of district/community needs and initiate activities to meet identified needs.
- Demonstrate the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement.
- Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
- Attend professional conferences and workshops annually to consistently grow as a professional in assigned area.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, UIL rules, and board policy in the music area.
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
