Professional Residential Educator – Part‑Time
Professional Residential Educators at The Monarch School report to, and are supervised by, the Transition Services Residential Coordinator. They are considered members of the school faculty and support student growth across the four core goals of The Monarch School while teaching and supporting independent living skills in residential settings.
POSITIONSchedule:
Monday through Friday 4:30 pm–8:30 pm or Saturday and Sunday 7:30 am–3:30 pm. Hour and day availability may vary depending on the qualified candidate’s schedule.
- Bachelor’s degree in special education, education, or psychology preferred.
- Experience working with individuals who have neurological differences in an educational and/or residential setting.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Occasionally lifts up to 40 pounds.
- Works in standard home‑living conditions and climate.
- Operates in a highly stressful environment, managing a wide variety of challenges and deadlines, and interacting with a diverse group of contacts.
- Maintains a highly professional, confidential, and friendly manner.
- Operate within the Monarch levels system for identification, practice, and documentation of core objectives.
- Monitor and provide support for medication, health, and safety.
- Integrate the Monarch levels system into the Transition Services Program.
- Identify and track progress on daily living skills such as hygiene, communication, transportation, socialization, laundry, and money management.
- Plan and support meal preparation, cooking, cleaning, shopping, and nutrition.
- Assist with support of other Transition Services homes and apartments, including coverage.
- Comply with all regulations regarding health, safety, and operations within Monarch policies and procedures.
- Develop and implement a program of well‑rounded educational, avocational, and physical fitness activities.
- Support and collaborate in employment and ongoing educational programs.
- Assist in transportation needs of Residential Services participants using Monarch vehicles.
- Develop and deliver daily and weekly implementation plans to the Residential Coordinator.
- Implement The Monarch School model of teaching, emphasizing students’ self‑regulation, executive functioning, relational skills, and academic competence.
- Participate actively in developing a mentally healthy school community.
- Supervise students at all times.
- Mentor and coach students, focusing on pivotal target skills and stratifications.
- Learn new curriculum models as directed.
- Support students’ therapeutic agenda in coordination with the Integrated Learning Practice Team.
- Demonstrate cooperative team skills and consider teammates in all decisions.
- Set yearly goals and allow the Program Coordinator to coach on goal attainment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Attend the annual faculty overnight retreat, as coordinated.
The role requires frequent standing, kneeling, stooping, and bending. The candidate must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and move desk, classroom equipment, and adaptive equipment. Working in a highly professional, confidential, and friendly environment under pressure, the position can be emotionally rewarding yet stressful at times.
