Position: Reading/ELA Teacher, Middle (SCE)-(2026-2027 School Year)

Reading/ELA Teacher, Middle (SCE) –  School Year

Spring Independent School District – Spring Leadership Academy, Houston, Texas

Starting Date: Aug 3, 2026

Salary: $62,750 (Based on  Pay Scale)

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Pay Grade: Teacher Salary Schedule

Primary Purpose

The ‘At Risk’ Teacher is responsible for providing academic interventions for students identified as at-risk and preparing these students for academic success. The teacher implements the district instructional program and educational philosophy in the assigned subject area or grade level, aligning instruction with district goals, policies, and procedures.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned

Preferred:

  • At least one year of student teaching or approved internship
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Knowledge of subjects assigned
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct at‑risk students and manage behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to analyze student performance data
  • Knowledge of lesson design principles
  • Knowledge of Professional Learning Communities
  • Willingness to work in small learning communities
Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Teach in accordance with staff assignment.
  • Display effective teaching practices to ensure authentic student engagement and learning.
  • Design effective lesson plans with immediate and long‑range goals.
  • Design lessons that demonstrate real‑world relevance and integration.
  • Choose appropriate materials and activities.
  • Present subject matter clearly and interestingly.
  • Coordinate and plan with team members.
  • Monitor student performance using formative and summative assessments.
  • Analyze student performance data and develop a plan for student success.
  • Implement the RTI process when appropriate.
  • Participate in professional learning communities.
  • Utilize technology to support and enhance instruction.
  • Work on inter‑disciplinary teams to focus on curriculum integration, relevance, and student success.
  • Administer the classroom to create an environment conducive to learning.
  • Organize procedures for effective classroom management.
  • Organize the assigned teaching area efficiently, appealingly, and safely.
  • Provide flexibility for individual and group activities.
  • Practice positive discipline techniques to help students gain self‑control and responsibility.
  • Maintain a positive, accepting attitude in working with students.
  • Work individually with students in a tutorial setting.
  • Cooperate with school personnel for student welfare.
  • Supervise behavior and safety of students in classes, between classes, and during school‑related activities on and off campus.
  • Collaborate with counselors, administrators, parents, and other staff to place students in the most effective educational setting.
  • Instruct students in school safety and emergency drill procedures.
  • Participate in special activities and programs for students and parents.
  • Cooperate with and support co‑curricular activities for students.
  • Participate in co‑curricular activities appropriate to the subject area or interest.
  • Work with administrators and maintenance staff to ensure student safety in all school facilities.
  • Cooperate with appropriate record‑keeping systems and administer them.
  • Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date records for student performance in the online gradebook.
  • Maintain accurate records for all textbooks, materials, and funds provided by the District.
  • Maintain records of parent contacts, conferences, disciplinary measures, and referrals.
  • Exemplify professionalism in behavior and performance.
  • Share responsibilities willingly with staff and administrators.
  • Support the District vision and campus mission.
  • Promote understanding of District programs and policies, fostering a positive attitude toward the teaching profession.
  • Remain current in education, technology, and specific instruction areas through literature, workshops, conferences, professional organizations, and college courses.
  • Adhere to the Texas Education Code of Ethics and support the District philosophy.
  • Comply with all State, District, and campus policies and procedures.
  • Complete campus improvement activities as outlined in the campus improvement plan.
  • Perform other appropriate duties as assigned.
Working Conditions

The position requires prolonged periods of standing, moderate sitting, stooping, bending, reaching, and repetitive hand motions; prolonged computer use. It may require lifting up to 10 lbs and traveling within the district and statewide. Candidates must maintain emotional control under stress and possess problem‑solving and communication skills.
