Direct and manage the overall drill team program for the campus and district. Provide students with an opportunity to participate in extracurricular drill team activities and ensure compliance with all state, University Interscholastic League (UIL), and district requirements. Plan and administer drill team activities in accordance with campus and district expectations. Plan and prepare to provide students with the opportunity to achieve district, regional, state, and national recognition.
Qualifications- Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree in Dance from an accredited college or university;
Valid Texas teaching certificate for dance and level assigned;
Valid Texas teaching certificate for physical education preferred; ESL Certification preferred or required within two (2) years of employment. - Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of overall operation of drill team program;
Ability to manage budget and personnel;
Knowledge of state, UIL, and district policies governing drill extracurricular activities;
Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data;
Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills. - Experience:
Three (3) years teaching and drill team instruction experience preferred.
- Direct high school drill team performers.
- Establish performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student’s eligibility to participate in drill team.
- Provide for drill team participation at extracurricular events, including football games, pep rallies, parades, UIL, and community service activities.
- Work in a cooperative partnership with High School Band Director for community performances.
- Arrange transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town events.
- Support drill team booster club activities.
- Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to determine program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responds to student needs.
- Recommend policies to improve program.
- Develop and implement plans for drill team program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement both formal and informal.
- Accompany and supervise on all trips.
- Plan and implement organization for any drill team participation in camps, various contests, shows, and audition processes.
- Provide supervisory leadership and management to all component groups within drill team program.
- Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Apply and enforce student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct, student handbook, district guidelines, and campus drill team guidelines.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
- Maintain professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Work to provide campus, District, and community awareness of drill team activities and performances.
- Maintain current inventory of all fixed assets within department.
- Oversee process of cleaning, repairing, and storing of all drill team equipment and performance attire.
