The High School Math Teacher is a part-time faculty role responsible for teaching and developing mathematics curriculum for students in grades 9–10 within a Montessori-inspired, experiential learning environment.
This position involves working closely with colleagues and adolescents in a student-centered classroom, with an emphasis on real-world application, interdisciplinary collaboration, and mentorship.
ResponsibilitiesThe High School Math Teacher will:
- Model respect, empathy, and positive regard for adolescents and their individual dignity
- Teach high school mathematics using engaging, developmentally appropriate methodologies
- Learn and implement a Montessori approach emphasizing hands-on, experiential learning
- Develop and adapt curriculum that connects mathematical concepts to real-world contexts
- Mentor, guide, and assess students' academic growth and progress
- Serve as a student advisor, supporting social and emotional development
- Collaborate actively with faculty across disciplines
- Design and teach elective courses during two-week J-Term and A-Term sessions
- Participate in school travel experiences, including:
- One-week Odyssey trip
- Overnight Retreat
- Build and maintain partnerships with community organizations, particularly within the Houston Museum District
- Contribute to a dynamic, innovative, and evolving academic program
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mathematics or a related field
- Experience teaching high school students in mathematics or a related discipline
- Strong content knowledge and enthusiasm for mathematics
- A commitment to lifelong learning and professional growth
- Ability to differentiate instruction and meet diverse learning needs
- Skill in fostering an engaging, inclusive classroom environment
- Interest in or commitment to Montessori philosophy and adolescent development
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Work within small, student-centered classes emphasizing collaboration and independence
- Engage in cross-disciplinary teaching and curriculum integration
- Participate in a fast-paced, innovative school environment
- Extend learning beyond the classroom through community partnerships
- Regularly sit, speak, and actively listen
- Use close and distance vision regularly
- Travel domestically and potentially internationally
