Primary
Purpose:
Responsible for implementing instruction in the assigned subject area(s) in a manner that fosters attainment of each student's maximum potential.
- Adhere to the district's philosophy of instruction and develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program.
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles and present subject matter according to Texas Education Agency guidelines.
- Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities; work cooperatively with the special education teacher to modify curricula as needed.
- Collaborate with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements; plan and supervise assignments of teacher aides and volunteers.
- Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
- Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits; conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
- Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning; manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
- Protect students, equipment, and materials, and assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
- Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, teachers, and the community.
- Participate in staff development activities, stay informed of state, district, and school regulations, and maintain required records.
- Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- Valid Texas Teacher Certificate or an appropriate out-of-state teaching certificate for the position.
- ESL Certification required during the first year if not already obtained.
- Content exam and Science of Teaching Reading exam requirements met, if applicable.
- Certification must meet federal and state law requirements for qualification and ongoing eligibility.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in effective use of technology.
- Ability to instruct students and manage behavior.
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress, work with frequent interruptions, and regularly interact with the public.
Physical Demands: Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing; move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desk and other classroom equipment.
