Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Supervision
    • Assist the Head of Elementary in implementing the Elementary Three‑Year Plan.
    • Model therapeutic and intervention strategies as needed and coordinate with the Curriculum Specialist to offer follow‑up support.
    • Assist in the planning and execution of in‑service training.
    • Provide professional development and resources to staff and adult education throughout the Parish community.
  • Instructional
    • Demonstrate understanding and implementation of the 7 Skills of Discipline aligned with the Conscious Discipline approach.
    • Plan and implement individualized reading programs in small groups, one‑on‑one, or whole class settings.
    • Contribute to academic reporting three times per year as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
    • Consult and collaborate with the instructional team in planning instruction.
  • Professional
    • Conduct a thorough file review for each student on the caseload prior to beginning therapy or assessment.
    • Collaborate with case managers in preparation of student and family information for round‑table meetings.
    • Participate in collaborative committee meetings, parent conferences, and other team meetings as needed.
    • Fulfill professional development requirements as outlined by the school.
    • Maintain student records and professional licensure as required by law, the school's policy, and administrative regulations.
    • Provide counseling and guidance on reading to parents and other staff members.
    • Participate in select committees as needed and foster a positive work culture.

Education / Experience

Master’s Degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field. A minimum of two years’ experience teaching students with dyslexia. Completion of a basic dyslexia intervention course.

Certificates and Licenses
  • Texas State Teacher Certification.
  • Certified Academic Language Therapist or Certified Academic Language Practitioner (preferred).
Computer Skills

Proficiency in MS Office applications.

Physical Demands
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Use hands to finger, handle, feel or type.
