Provide the expertise and knowledge that support the high school curriculum. Establish courses following accepted secondary education standards, teach students using a variety of effective methodologies, and provide engagement and support activities that encourage student learning. The role of the Instructional Faculty encompasses teaching and learning, academic advising, and professional development.

Plan and teach a program of study in accordance with the Texas Education Agency and HCCS guidelines. Demonstrate and apply skill and/or knowledge in effective classroom management techniques. Continually improve the quality of instruction by reviewing student achievement and implementing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods. Develop and use a syllabus for each course within college, discipline, and departmental guidelines. Plan, develop, and implement a variety of instructional methods and materials to assist students in mastering course objectives.

Provide appropriate instruction for students with differing learning styles, educational, and experiential backgrounds. Evaluate students to measure progress toward achievement of course objectives, inform students and parents of progress, keep accurate records, and submit related reports within requested timelines. Teach courses at varied times and locations to respond to institutional needs and create a conducive learning environment.

Keep pace with developments in classroom management techniques and student behavior. Learn and apply technologies that support student learning. Participate in evaluation processes for self, department, and college. Be familiar with and adhere to all HCCS policies and procedures.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must meet the following qualifications:

• Education:
  
  Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university;
  Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for the subject and level, or ESL certification preferred for English/ELA assignments. Physical Education teachers must hold a current AED certificate.
• Experience:
  
  Three (3) years of teaching experience required.
• Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  Willing and able to teach day or evening classes at multiple sites across the city; proficiency with a variety of computer software; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; strong organizational and planning skills; sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio‑economic, cultural, ethnic backgrounds, and disabilities; ability to inspire and motivate students in a learning‑centered environment; self‑discipline and effective management of others.
