Read 180 Paraprofessional @ Elsik High School
Starting Date: Aug 3, 2026
Job DescriptionAssist the READ 180 teacher in supporting students in learning content and skills that contribute to their development.
Qualifications- High school diploma or GED
- Qualifies for appropriate state paraprofessional certification
- Experience working with students with disabilities
- Knowledge of school district organization, operations, and administrative policies
- Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrate interest and aptitude for the work to be performed
- Computer skills preferred
- Ability to multitask activities
- Provide explicit instruction to small groups of students using a lesson plan designed by the teacher.
- Monitor, assist with, and reinforce learning while the teacher delivers whole group instruction.
- Collect and record data related to students' IEP objectives and educational plans.
- Read to students, listen to students read, and participate in other forms of oral and written communication and reading instruction.
- Support the classroom teacher in maintaining a positive learning environment and student discipline.
- Help students master instructional materials assigned by teachers.
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality about students.
- Participate in in‑service training programs as assigned.
- Assume responsibility for instruction when the teacher is absent for training.
- Meet regularly with the READ 180 teacher to discuss student progress and plan instruction.
- Perform additional administrative and supplemental duties as assigned by campus administrators, including but not limited to:
- Assist with personal hygiene functions when required (e.g., bathing, clothing changes).
- Assist with medically related services after nurse training (e.g., catheter cleaning, tube feeding, suctioning).
- Perform physical/behavioral management procedures as needed.
- Provide specialized services such as Braille transcription or augmentative communication monitoring.
- Comply with federal, state, and local policies.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain appropriate technology competence for current and future needs.
- Implement alternative instruction methods as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Performance will be evaluated according to the Board’s policy on evaluation of Instructional Paraprofessional Personnel.
Mental, Physical, and Environmental DemandsStandard office equipment; standing, prolonged sitting, occasional kneeling; repetitive hand motions; moderate lifting (up to 15–45 lb); may require traveling and irregular hours; temperatures are controlled; must maintain emotional control under stress.
