Dean, Center of Excellence - Architectural Design and Construction

JOB SUMMARY

The Dean provides leadership in the development and maintenance of a state‑of‑the‑art Center of Excellence. The Dean oversees the effective and efficient scheduling of program offerings district‑wide for the assigned Center, collaborates with the Associate Vice Chancellor (AVC) and President to provide vision, motivation, coordination and support to Chairs and faculty, and works with the System Office to ensure compliance with THECB and SACS‑COC.

The Dean leads engagement and growth of the Center, identifies and acquires the latest technology and equipment, oversees student outcomes (enrollment, persistence, completion, transfer, and job placement), and fosters a respectful, collaborative, professional instructional team. The Dean manages Talent Engagement activities for direct reports and ensures a system of internal controls that safeguard assets and ensure reliable, compliant financial information.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Collaborate with college staff to grow area‑related programs and oversee the addition/revision of degree and certificate offerings, align district policy, maximize enrollment growth and revenue generation, and monitor outcomes.

• Compile and maintain current articulation agreements for assigned programs to ensure student access to ongoing education opportunities.

• Work with program personnel to provide active learning activities, including field trips and internships, enhancing educational and career prospects.

• Lead curriculum development, program cataloging, and course information for assigned programs and coordinate with Chairs on curriculum maintenance.

• Report to the AVC and President on enrollment, contact hours, fill rates, persistence, completion, placement, accreditation status and licensure rates.

• Conduct annual reviews of program needs, recommend instructional technology, and provide findings to the AVC and President.

• Review Program Reviews, Annual Planning Reports, and Assessment Reports to recommend improvements.

• Maintain accurate program website and social media information.

• Develop grant proposals with the Grants Office and deepen industry partnerships.

• Serve on advisory boards to support program development, resource development, and represent HCC to industry.

• Serve on College and District committees and act as liaison with governing bodies regarding HCC programs and practices.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree in an academic area appropriate to supervision of programs required;
    Doctorate preferred
  • 6 years’ combined experience in program management in an academic or industry setting with increasing responsibility; including 3 years full‑time teaching in higher education (academic) or 5 years in industry (workforce)
  • Grant management experience preferred

Licensing & Certification

WORKING CONDITIONS

General office environment. The position requires ability to perform all tasks with or without accommodations, remain stationary during shifts, move items up to 25 pounds, and use technology. The role may require after‑hours work, including weekends and holidays.
