Role DescriptionThis is a full-time, on-site Special Education Teacher role located in Houston, TX. The Special Education Teacher will design and deliver individualized instruction for students with diverse learning needs, following Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and district guidelines. Responsibilities include adapting curriculum and materials, implementing evidence‑based instructional strategies, and using data to monitor progress and adjust teaching plans. The teacher will collaborate closely with general education teachers, related service providers, and campus staff to support inclusive practices and access to the general curriculum.
Day‑to‑day tasks include managing classroom behavior, maintaining accurate documentation, communicating regularly with families and guardians, participating in ARD/IEP meetings, and engaging in ongoing professional development to support best practices in special education.
- Knowledge of special education practices, including understanding of disabilities and Special Education services, to effectively support diverse learners.
- Strong Teaching skills with experience at the Middle School level or a demonstrated ability to work with adolescents in an educational setting.
- Effective Communication skills for collaborating with students, families, educators, and multidisciplinary teams, both verbally and in writing.
- State‑issued teaching certification or eligibility for certification in Special Education (or closely related field), as required by Texas regulations.
- Familiarity with developing, implementing, and monitoring IEPs, accommodations, and modifications aligned with legal requirements.
- Demonstrated classroom management skills and the ability to create an inclusive, supportive, and culturally responsive learning environment.
- Proficiency with educational technology, data tracking tools, and digital learning platforms to support instruction and progress monitoring.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field; advanced degree or specialized training in special education is a plus.
