Job SummaryA K-12 Dean of Instruction for Students acts as an instructional leader and student advocate, overseeing curriculum implementation, teacher coaching, student behavior, and academic interventions. This role drives achievement, fosters a positive school climate, and manages student discipline through restorative practices to ensure a productive learning environment.
Essential Functions- Instructional Leadership: Coaches teachers, develops instructional strategies, monitors assessment data, and aligns curriculum to educational goals.
- Student Support & Culture: Fosters a positive school culture, oversees student activities, and implements restorative practices and behavior intervention plans.
- Academic Improvement: Identifies intervention and enrichment programs, monitors student progress, and designs individualized learning pathways.
- Attendance Management: Tracks attendance records and develops strategies to improve attendance.
- Administration & Supervision: Evaluates teaching staff, assists with student discipline, communicates with parents, and contributes to school leadership.
Skilled in using relevant software and managing overall computer setup. To be punctual, comply with AAMA policies, protect equipment and materials, participate in improvement initiatives, demonstrate timeliness and attendance, work collaboratively, provide and accept evaluative feedback, maintain ethical behavior and confidentiality, and have strong attention to detail, organization, independent and team work abilities, effective communication, active listening, reading comprehension, time management, social perceptiveness, and accurate information recording.
Education,Certification, and Interpersonal Skills
- Education: A master’s degree from an accredited university.
- Certification: A valid Texas classroom teaching certificate is required;
Principal certification highly preferred. - Experience: Previous classroom teacher experience is required, with a proven track record of increasing student achievement.
- Knowledge: Deep understanding of Texas Education Agency (TEA) standards, curriculum design, and data-driven instruction.
- Curriculum Development: Lead planning and evaluation of the School’s academic curriculum.
- Instructional Leadership: Support teacher development through coaching, mentorship, and professional development.
- Data Analysis: Utilize student performance data to inform instructional strategies.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with state standards and regulations.
- Data Analysis:
Use student data to improve teaching and learning. - Restorative Practices:
Implement restorative approaches to disciplinary issues. - Teacher Evaluation:
Assist in the evaluation of instructional staff.
Strong leadership, communication (oral and written), interpersonal, problem-solving, and strategic planning skills are essential for success in this demanding role.
Job Requirements- Master’s degree preferred.
