Primary
Purpose:
To provide support and guidance to teachers in the provision of specially designed instruction to improve outcomes for students with disabilities.
Education/Certification:
- Texas certification standards required for assignment as set by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC)
- Special Education Certification and Bilingual Certification preferred
- ESL Certification preferred or ESL Certification required within two (2) years of employment beginning with teachers hired in 2010‑11 school year
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Strong knowledge in designing and delivering effective instruction
- Strong knowledge of specially designed instruction to address student needs related to their disability conditions
- Able to manage student behavior and support district initiatives
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Able to interact with diverse groups of professionals and individuals
- Proficient in use of digital tools including Google Suite, Microsoft 365, ARD/IEP Software, Learning Management Systems, text‑to‑speech software, and speech‑to‑text software
Experience:
- Five (5) years of experience teaching reading/language arts and/or math preferred
- Experience as a Content Specialist, Interventionist, or SPED Team Leader preferred
- Experience preparing and leading professional development and PLCs at both the campus and district level preferred
- Experience writing curriculum, assessments, and supplemental materials preferred
- Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
- Abide by the Alief ISD Code of Civility.
- Maintain an acceptable attendance rate – 94% annually (excluding approved leaves and emergencies).
- Confer with and foster professional relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators on a regular basis per building and district guidelines.
- Model lessons for teachers and paraprofessionals.
- Travel among schools to observe instruction and offer feedback to maximize student achievement.
- Provide initial and ongoing training to general and special education staff, students, parents, and community.
- Provide instructional leadership in the planning, implementation and evaluation of services.
- Assist teachers/paras in the teaching/learning process including:
- Support for differentiated instruction as well as Specially Designed Instruction (SDI)
- Prescription, diagnosis and data collecting
- Placement, grouping and scheduling
- Systems, routines and procedures to maximize on‑task behavior
- Assist in the development and implementation of student IEPs.
- Assist with adding and reviewing embedded supports on district‑level assessments.
- Continue to develop professional knowledge.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
- Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
