Job DescriptionProvide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Qualifications- Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree from accredited university;
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements;
Current ESL Certification required within (2) years of employment;
Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area;
Gifted Teachers must have 30 hours of gifted approved hours. - Special Knowledge/
Skills:
Knowledge of subject matter; knowledge of curriculum and instruction; ability to instruct students and manage behavior; strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. - Experience: Completion of student teaching or approved internship.
- Serve a diverse population of students, including those participating in state/federal programs and general education.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships and open communication with parents, students, colleagues and community members.
- Abide by Alief ISD Code of Civility.
- Maintain an acceptable attendance rate – 94% annually (excluding approved leaves and emergencies).
- Confer with and foster professional relationships with students, parents, colleagues and administrators per building and district guidelines.
- Plan and participate in meetings; provide documentation on admissions, reviews, progress, grades, dismissals, conferences.
- Comply with state and federal laws, district policies, rules, regulations and administrative directives.
- Plan and teach a program of study in accordance with the Texas Education Agency, district mandates and curricula.
- Develop and implement lesson plans that meet TEA requirements and show written evidence of preparation; use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, technology.
- Implement instructional, linguistic, and/or modifications and accommodations per various committees.
- Work cooperatively with special education teachers and interventionists to modify curricula complying with IEPs.
- Work with other staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, methods per district requirements.
- Diagnose learning needs and seek assistance from leadership for appropriate interventions.
- Assess ongoing accomplishments and needs; maintain records; provide immediate feedback and progress reports; administer state assessments; use small group instruction.
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities; sponsor approved outside activities.
- Act as a positive role model; support the district mission.
- Create an inviting, risk‑free, supportive, warm learning environment appropriate to developmental level and interests.
- Use an effective discipline management system aligned with policies.
- Manage behavior in accordance with Code of Conduct.
- Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, facilities.
- Assist in selecting instructional materials.
- Compile, maintain, file required reports and records.
- Participate in professional development activities.
- Comply with state, district, and federal laws and policies.
- Attend faculty meetings and serve on committees as required.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain appropriate technology competence.
- Implement alternative methods of instruction.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Direct work of any assigned instructional aide(s).
EvaluationPerformance evaluated per Board’s policy on T‑TESS.
Mental and Physical DemandsTools/Equipment:
Standard office equipment. Posture: standing, sitting, kneeling, bending, pushing, pulling, twisting. Motion: repetitive hand motions, keyboarding, mouse use, occasional reaching, climbing stairs. Lifting: moderate up to 15 pounds, occasional heavy up to 45 pounds. Environment: may work prolonged or irregular hours, district travel, temperature‑controlled, hard surface floors. Mental Demands: work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress.
