Job DescriptionPrimary
Purpose:
To provide opportunities for the teacher to attend to the individual needs of students.
- Education/Certification: High school diploma or GED; qualifies for appropriate state paraprofessional certification.
- Special Knowledge/
Skills:
Demonstrated interest in and aptitude for work; computer skills preferred; strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders; ability to multi‑task activities. - Experience: None.
- Assist in carrying out the district’s goal of improving student achievement by providing assistance to students who are at‑risk of academic failure or dropping out of school and/or staff who work with these students.
- Check and record student attendance.
- Reproduce instructional materials.
- Type forms and instructional materials.
- Distribute and collect materials for instruction.
- Administer, score and record achievement and diagnostic tests, score objective‑type teacher‑made tests and quizzes, and record grades as the teacher recommends for students.
- Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material or skills taught by the teacher.
- Catalogue and file instructional materials and maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment and prepare orders or requisitions for needed materials.
- Read to students, listen to students read, and participate in other forms of oral communication with students.
- Help students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by teachers.
- Keep bulletin boards and other classroom displays up‑to‑date.
- Operate equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
- Assist students in the library or media center.
- Assist with the supervision of students during lunch periods, assemblies, play periods, and transitions.
- Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information as is expected of teachers.
- Participate in in‑service training programs as assigned.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
- Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

EvaluationPerformance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Instructional Paraprofessional Personnel.
Mental Demands / Physical Demands / Environmental FactorsTools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals
Posture: Prolonged standing & sitting, occasional kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing pulling, and twisting
Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; may also require climbing stairs and reaching over head
Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds); may require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (15-45 pounds)
Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; possible district wide travel; all campuses are temperature controlled with hard surface floors
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
